The books, set in Shakespeare, Arkansas, feature a heroine who has survived a terrible attack and is learning to live with its consequences. Soon Charlaine was looking for another challenge, and the result was the much darker Lily Bard series. Her first Teagarden, Real Murders, garnered an Agatha nomination. After a child-producing sabbatical, Charlaine latched on to the trend of series, and soon had her own traditional mystery books about a Georgia librarian, Aurora Teagarden. The resulting two stand-alones were published by Houghton Mifflin. After holding down some low-level jobs, her husband Hal gave her the opportunity to stay home and write. Though her early output consisted largely of ghost stories, by the time she hit college (Rhodes, in Memphis) Charlaine was writing poetry and plays. Charlaine lives in Texas now, and all of her children and grandchildren are within easy driving distance. A native of the Mississippi Delta, she grew up in the middle of a cotton field. The Sookie Stackhouse books are delightful Southern Gothic supernatural mysteries, starring Sookie, the telepathic cocktail waitress, and a cast of increasingly colourful characters, including vampires, werewolves and things that really do go bump in the night.Charlaine Harris has been a published novelist for over thirty-five years. Sookie has until the next full moon to find out who's behind the attacks - unless the killer decides to find her first. She afraid not just because Jason's at risk, but because his new were-brethren suspect Jason may be the shooter. She can deal with that, but her normal sisterly concern turns to cold fear when a sniper sets his deadly sights on the local changeling population.

Now her brother Jason's eyes are starting to change: he's about to turn into a were-panther for the first time. The problem is, Sookie wants a quiet life - but things just seem to happen to her and her friends. She's a great cocktail waitress in a fun bar she has a love life, albeit a bit complicated, and most people have come to terms with her telepathy.

Sookie's got just a month, before the next full moon, to find out who wants her brother dead - and to stop the fiend! Sookie Stackhouse enjoys her life, mostly.
